Ascent Aerospace Joins Leading Aerospace Cluster in Mexico

THE AEROSPACE COMPANY CHOSE TO ESTABLISH A NEW PLANT IN MEXICALI FOR ITS INDUSTRIAL STRENGTHS.

Today, Ascent Aerospace officially opens its first plant in Mexico, located in the new industrial park Calafia II, with more than 50,000 square feet and room for expansion. The factory is being established as a world-class welding and metal fabrication center and intends to eventually create 100 new welding and advanced manufacturing jobs in the city of Mexicali.

Ascent Aerospace, the world’s largest tooling and automated assembly manufacturer in aerospace industry, counts companies such as Airbus, Boeing, UTC, and GKN among its customers. Ascent manufactures molds for composite aerostructures, tools for the assembly of large parts and turnkey assembly lines for the most important aircraft programs in the world.

The American aerospace group is headquartered in Detroit, Michigan, and has more than 900 employees around the world. Ascent has a total manufacturing area of 780,000 square feet, plus the new Mexicali plant, and more than 1.5 million hours of annual tool manufacturing capacity.

Ascent Aerospace was supported by Grupo Prodensa in the strategic decision of its new location in Mexico. Grupo Prodensa, a leading consulting services company for national and foreign manufacturing companies, coordinated with the municipal, state government and GRUMESA developers, recommended Mexicali for its industry-leading strengths for aerospace and advanced manufacturing. Also, Baja California is leader in the aerospace industry in Mexico, being the best option for this new facility.

The event was attended by the Governor of Baja California, Francisco Arturo Vega de Lamadrid; the Municipal President of Mexicali, Gustavo Sánchez Vázquez; Carlo Humberto Bonafante Olache, Secretary of Economic Development of the Government of the State of Baja California; Michael Mahfet, CEO of Ascent Aerospace; Guillermo Rivera, Plant Manager of Ascent Aerospace in México; Paul Walsh, Ascent Aerospace World Class Operations Leader; Marco Kuljacha, Director of Operations Grupo Prodensa.
